Impact: How You Can Help Steps to a Successful Drive

  1. Appoint a Collection Project Chairperson. This person may need some helpers for publicity, collecting, packing and mailing.

  2. Choose collection sites: Post Office, bank, opticians' offices, library, cafeteria at work or school, places of worship, etc.

  3. If you have access to a company bulletin board or newsletter, include an article about the drive. You can use the Sample Article or Press Release (PDF) as a guide.

  4. Ask members of your organization to spread the word among their friends and family.

  5. Publicize your collection drive through local newspapers and radio and TV stations. You can use the Sample Radio or TV Announcement (PDF) as a guide.

  6. Prepare collection boxes. You can use any container you wish and attach a New Eyes poster. Place the containers where they are very visible and exposed to the most traffic.

  7. Place a few New Eyes Question & Answer Pamphlets (PDF) near the collection boxes.

  8. Check lost and found departments at hotels, stores, schools, police stations, etc., for unclaimed glasses, hearing aids, jewelry and giftware.

  9. When your collection drive ends, mail, ship or bring your glasses and other donation to New Eyes. Postage and shipping costs are tax-deductible. Be sure to put your name and address inside the package so that your donations can be acknowledged.

Who Sends Glasses to New Eyes?

"Years ago, when we began collecting eyeglasses for New Eyes for the Needy, we had wooden collection boxes that were posted in hallways and stairwells in each of our buildings and have been donating regularly ever since.

We are very happy that New Eyes is there and does such a great job of helping the world to see better. It is a fantastic organization."
